What Is DAMACA

DAMACA is our diagnostic framework for making sense of what’s really shaping an organisational challenge.

It helps us look beyond the presenting issue and examine how direction, responsibility, performance expectations, authority, communication, and attitude are affecting the way people work.

Direction

Does the organisation have a direction people can follow? DAMACA looks at the organisation’s aims and longer-term vision. It also considers how that direction has been shared, and whether people see how their roles connect to it.

Accountability

Are responsibilities properly defined? When ownership is ill-defined, uncertainty spreads. This part of the diagnosis process considers where responsibility sits and whether people understand what’s expected of them.
M

Measurement

What does good performance look like in practice? A defined way of measuring performance helps people identify what’s expected of them and where they stand. Here, the focus is on how performance is assessed and whether that approach works in practice.

Authority

What are people trusted to decide? DAMACA examines whether people understand what they’re trusted to decide. When this is unclear, they may hesitate or wait for approval before acting.

Where is communication breaking down? DAMACA examines how communication flows across the organisation. It looks at where expectations, decisions, priorities, or feedback may be getting lost.

How It Works

A diagnosis before a response.

DAMACA gives us a structured way to identify the challenge before designing the response.

The process starts with the presenting challenge then looks at what may be behind it:

  • We begin by identifying what the organisation is experiencing.
  • We examine the organisation using DAMACA to see what’s working and what’s getting in the way.
  • We identify which conditions are affecting performance.
  • We decide what needs attention.

This helps separate visible symptoms from the issues underpinning them.

The recommendation that follows may point to advisory support, development work, process redesign, targeted training, or another form of support shaped around what the organisation actually needs.
